Affordable AI Rank Tracker for Small Businesses: Pricing
An honest price ladder for small-business AI rank trackers, from free tiers to $99 add-ons, and why the cheapest plan that answers 'did ChatGPT send buyers' is Promptwatch Essential.
If you run a small business, you probably found this page with a budget already in mind. Maybe $20 a month. Maybe $100 if the tool earns it. Good. Price is a fair filter, and the AI rank tracker market has plans at almost every step between free and a few hundred dollars.
The catch is that cheap plans differ more in what they measure than in what they cost. A $20 tracker and a $95 platform can both say "your brand appeared in ChatGPT". Only one of them can tell you whether that appearance sent a customer to your site. For a business with a small marketing budget, that second answer is the one that justifies spending anything at all.
Below is the price ladder using each vendor's published numbers from our listings, then a plain recommendation.
The price ladder
Sorted by entry price, not by our ranking.
| Tool | Entry price | What the entry plan includes |
|---|---|---|
| Promptwatch Explore | Free | 10 prompts, ChatGPT only, 1 project |
| AthenaHQ Essential | Free | About 300 credits, works as a trial |
| Encited Basic | $19/mo | 1 site, 3 prompts tracking ChatGPT, limited site audit |
| Rankscale Essentials | $20/mo | 120 credits, all engines |
| HubSpot AEO | $50/mo ($45 yearly) | 25 prompts daily, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, 28-day trial |
| LLMrefs Pro | $79/mo (labeled limited time) | 10+ engines, 500 prompts, 50 keywords, weekly refresh |
| SE Ranking AI Tracker | $89/mo add-on | 200 checks on top of the core SEO suite |
| Promptwatch Essential | $95/mo (7-day trial) | 50 prompts, 6,000 responses, 200K visitor events, 5 AEO articles |
| Semrush AI Toolkit | $99/mo per domain | 25 prompts, 5 engines, on top of Semrush |
| Mangools AI Search Watcher | Included in Mangools plans | Plan price not published on the product page |
What the cheap rows really cost
Rankscale at $20 is the lowest sticker with all engines. It is credit-based, and our listing notes credit burn varies by engine, so a mixed engine set can drain a small allowance faster than the plan name suggests. Fine for a first look. Hard to budget for.
Encited Basic at $19 is mainly SEO infrastructure (pre-rendering, a site auditor, an MCP server) with three ChatGPT prompts attached. Three prompts covers your brand name and maybe two services. That is a spot check, not tracking.
HubSpot AEO at $50 is a sensible pick if you already use HubSpot. It watches three engines and gives prioritized recommendations, with a long free trial. It does not cover Claude, Copilot or Google's AI Overviews, and our listing found no published crawler logs or visitor conversion analytics.
LLMrefs at $79 is generous on prompt count. The refresh is weekly, the price is flagged as limited time, and there is no alerting.
SE Ranking and Semrush both sit on top of an SEO suite. If you pay for the suite already, the add-on is cheap. If you do not, SE Ranking's AI add-on needs the core plan (around $129/mo Pro) underneath it, and Semrush charges $99 per domain before extra users or prompts. Mangools bundles its watcher into its plans, but the page we sourced does not publish the price.
The question a small business actually needs answered
Picture a physiotherapy clinic with two locations. The owner types "best physio near me for back pain" into ChatGPT and sees the clinic named. Good news, but what does it pay for?
The useful follow-up questions are these. Did anyone click through from that answer? Did they book? Which page did ChatGPT cite, the homepage or the back pain service page? A rank tracker at $20 answers "was I mentioned". It does not see your website, so it cannot see the booking.
That is the line between a tracker and a measurement tool, and it is why the most affordable plan we would actually recommend is not the cheapest one on the ladder.
Where Promptwatch fits the budget
Promptwatch Explore costs nothing and covers 10 prompts on ChatGPT. Use it to write and test your prompt list: your services, your town or city, one "versus" query against your best-known competitor, and one pricing question. If ten rows fill up in an afternoon, you have learned something.
Essential at $95/mo is the first real plan, and the reason it earns its price for a small business is visitor analytics. You add a lightweight script or a Google Tag Manager template, and AI-referred sessions show up with their conversions. The plan allows 200K visitor events. Now the clinic can see that ChatGPT sent people who booked, not just that it said the clinic's name. Essential also includes 50 prompts, 6,000 responses and 5 AEO articles, which is enough to write the service page a competitor keeps getting cited for.
Crawler logs are the one thing small businesses ask about that Essential does not include. Agent Analytics, which shows whether ChatGPTBot or PerplexityBot fetched your service pages and hit any errors, starts on Professional at $245/mo with 25M crawler logs. Most single-location businesses can wait on that until a page they care about stays invisible for no obvious content reason.
A sensible spending plan
Month one: Explore, free. Ten prompts, ChatGPT only, and a note of which competitor appears where you do not.
Month two: the Essential trial. Install the visitor script on day one so the seven days produce traffic data, not just mention counts.
After that, stay on Essential while 50 prompts is enough, and only move to Professional when crawler evidence becomes the question you cannot answer. Otterly.AI at $29 is another cheap way to confirm mentions exist, with the trade-offs on engines and refresh covered in its review.
