AI Visibility Monitoring Tools for Recruitment Agencies
Keep LinkedIn for the pipeline. Add a GEO tracker for the ChatGPT shortlist hiring managers now trust. How recruitment agencies should buy AI visibility monitoring in 2026.
Recruitment agencies keep asking for "AI visibility monitoring tools" as if that were a staffing SKU. It is not. LinkedIn still runs the pipeline. Job boards still run applications. Google still runs a lot of branded search. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews now also answer "who should I hire to hire," and those answers do not live in Recruiter, Indeed, or Search Console (except the Overviews slice).
The buying mistake is cancelling one of those stacks because you bought another. The honest split looks like the one we already use for local businesses and Maps: keep the pipeline tools, add a GEO tracker for the generated shortlist.
Promptwatch is the GEO half we recommend. Facts below come from this site's catalog and the Promptwatch fact sheet sourced from promptwatch.com/llms.txt. We have no audited "retainers won from ChatGPT" figure for staffing, so you will not find one here.
Two buyers, two prompt lists
A recruitment firm is recommended to two different people.
The hiring manager asks for a partner: "best recruitment agency for software engineers in [city]," "retained search for a CFO," "contract IT staffing [city]." The candidate asks for a door: "nursing agencies in [city]," "[firm] reviews," "who hires warehouse staff without a degree." If you dump both into one untagged list, a rise in candidate mentions can hide a loss on the client side, which is the side that pays.
Promptwatch prompts carry personas, topics, tags, and country, state, or city targeting. Use them. A national "IT recruiter" score is noise for a desk that only sells in one metro. Set the city to the desk's patch. A second office is a second prompt cluster or a second project, not a blended share of voice.
Perplexity (22M+ monthly active users) is likelier to footnote a source. ChatGPT (820M+ weekly active users) is likelier to name a brand and move on. You need both in the log. Paid Promptwatch plans monitor those plus Gemini (650M+ monthly), Claude, Grok, Copilot, and Google's AI surfaces from the real UIs, not API samples.
The stack, not a replacement
| Job | What you already use | What a GEO tool adds |
|---|---|---|
| Pipeline | LinkedIn Recruiter, your ATS | Nothing. Do not look for it |
| Applications | Job boards, careers site | Whether AI named you to a candidate |
| Google blue links | Search Console, a rank tracker | Unchanged |
| Google AI Overviews | GSC generative reports | Prompt-level cite next to impressions |
| ChatGPT / Perplexity / Gemini | Nothing, unless you check by hand | Mention, citation, competitor, city |
Hand checks on Friday afternoon are how partners argue from memory. Explore is free if the objection is price: 10 ChatGPT prompts, one seat.
What to buy, in this order
Promptwatch for the assistants. Essential is $95 a month (7-day trial) for 50 prompts, 6,000 responses, 200K visitor events and 5 AEO articles on one project. That is a single-brand, one-country start. Professional is $245 with 150 prompts, 2 projects, 1M visitor events, 25M crawler logs and 15 AEO articles. Business is $579 with 5 projects and 350 prompts. Agency self-serve starts at Kick-off, $199, with unlimited projects and prompts, 10 seats, 10,000 responses and 10M crawler logs, then Growth $399 and Scale $799. Use Kick-off when you have many desks, multiple trading names, or you sell GEO reporting to employer clients. Annual is twelve months for the price of ten.
Open citation analytics first: which specialty page got used, and which directory, Glassdoor URL, or competitor won the footnote instead. On Professional and the agency plans, Agent Analytics shows whether ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther or the Meta AI crawler fetched the page, with a crawl-to-citation path, via Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN or custom HTTP. Visitor analytics (script or GTM) show AI-referred sessions and conversions when a click happens. Most answers still send none. Mentions still matter for a retained-search pitch.
Content Agents can draft and publish the missing specialty page to Webflow or Framer through a review inbox. That is the close of the loop. A monitor that only scores "SAP recruiter [city]" without shipping a page leaves the BD team staring at a red cell.
AthenaHQ if the internal problem is tasks, not logs. AthenaHQ from $295 a month puts findings in an Action Center. Starter is one country. Personas and multi-region are Enterprise, reported around $2,000 a month. Credit burn is the listed complaint. No crawler-log product. A multi-city staffing group will feel the country cap before the Action Center helps.
Semrush AI Toolkit only as a column. Semrush AI Toolkit is $99 per domain per month on top of Semrush. ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, next to keywords. Extra domains stack. It will not show crawler hits or publish a page.
Skip Profound as the first buy. It ranks below dedicated AI-search platforms here, and the real product is Enterprise from around $40k a year.
A working starter list
Fifteen prompts is enough to stop guessing. Five hiring-manager, five candidate, five branded (your name plus "reviews," "fees," "legit," plus one competitor by name). Run them on ChatGPT and Perplexity. Write down who got named. Then load the same list into Promptwatch so next month is comparable.
If a review site or a "top 10 recruiters" listicle won the citation, that is offsite work. If a competing agency won the mention with no URL, that is a brand problem. If nobody named you and your specialty page 404s for ChatGPTBot, that is a crawl problem, which is why the log layer exists.
FAQ
Can we skip Perplexity?
You can start on Explore (ChatGPT only). Candidates and some HR teams still use Perplexity, and you will not see the footnotes.
Do we need a staffing-specific vendor?
No. You need extractable specialty pages, a clean crawl, and a prompt log with city and persona. We will not quote a placement lift we did not measure.
When do we jump from Essential to Kick-off?
When one project and 50 prompts stop covering the desks, or when you need unlimited projects for multiple trading names. Kick-off is $199 with unlimited projects and prompts. promptwatch.com.
