Dental SEO AI Visibility Platform: Local Search AI Rankings for Dental Practices
Dental local search AI rankings are not map-pack position. ChatGPT's 'dentist near me' is a recommendation slot. Promptwatch tracks it by city and state.
"Dental SEO AI visibility platform local search AI rankings dental practices" is a ranking problem, not a tools roundup. A practice already knows how to read a map pack. The new question is what "rank" means when someone types "dentist near me" into ChatGPT or asks Perplexity for an implant clinic in their city. Those answers do not return ten blue links. They name a short list. Position in that list is the AI ranking.
Promptwatch is the platform we use for that list. Essential at $95/mo includes country-level targeting. State and city targeting start on Professional at $245/mo and are also included with the agency plans, which is how you stop averaging Dallas against a national DSO. Paid engines refresh daily from the real UI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode). Explore is free on ChatGPT with 10 prompts. 4.7/5 on G2. 1,840+ brands. Amsterdam, April 2025.
This is the local-rankings sibling of the dental tools post. We are still not inventing practice-level citation percentages.
"Dentist near me" on Maps is not the same as ChatGPT
On Google, "dentist near me" is a local pack plus a map. Distance, reviews, categories, and GBP completeness move that pack. BrightLocal (or whatever you already use for listings) still owns that report. A #1 pack is still worth money. Nothing about AI search retired it.
On ChatGPT, "dentist near me" is a generated recommendation. The model may ignore distance the way a pack does not. It may name a practice across town because a blog post or a directory page was easy to lift. It may name a chain. It may name nobody local and suggest a search instead. Perplexity will often attach footnotes. ChatGPT (820M+ weekly active users) will often name without linking.
Those are different ranks. Mixing them in one "local SEO score" is how a practice concludes they "dropped" when the pack held and the chatbot swapped names.
Google AI Overviews can cite you inside Search. Search Console's generative AI performance reports will show impressions on that surface. They will not show the ChatGPT "dentist near me" slot. Google's AI features docs still say indexed and snippet-eligible. Fine for Overviews. Incomplete for the chatbot rank.
What an AI ranking is for a practice
GEO rank is citation or mention position inside the answer: named or not, linked or not, first among practices or fourth. It is not an average Google position with a new label.
Report it on a frozen prompt list:
- "dentist near me" with the city spelled out (models are bad at inferring your office from a vague session)
- "[procedure] dentist in [city]"
- "emergency dentist [city]"
- "[practice name] vs [competitor]"
- one insurance prompt if that is how patients shop
For each: mention (Y/N), citation URL (Y/N), slot among named practices, sentiment if the answer is a warning. Share of voice is against the two or three practices you actually lose patients to, not against every dentist in the state.
Promptwatch stores that as prompt trends over time, with query fan-outs when the model ran extra searches before it picked a source. Citation analytics show whether the cited URL was your location page, a Healthgrades profile, or a competitor's blog. That is the ranking report. A blended "AI visibility" widget is not.
City and state, not a national SOV
Set the tracker to the city the patient is in. If you serve two metros, split the prompts. A state-level rollup is acceptable as a second view for a group with many offices. It is a bad only view for a single location.
Promptwatch's city and state tracking starts on Professional and is also included with the agency plans. That setting makes "local search AI rankings" a real phrase. Without it, you are reading a US-average session that may never mention your street.
On Professional, Business, and the self-serve agency plans, Agent Analytics tells you whether ChatGPTBot, PerplexityBot, or another AI crawler fetched the location page before a citation could happen. Essential has no listed crawler-log allowance. Visitor analytics through a script or GTM tells you whether an AI session arrived. Unified Actions can queue the next page fix. Content Agents can draft to Webflow or Framer. The rank still has to be measured first.
Profound Starter ($99/mo annual) is ChatGPT-only with 50 prompts and no reason to prefer it over Essential for a single practice. Otterly.AI at $29/mo can show a first ChatGPT/Perplexity snapshot, with up to a seven-day lag. After how we rank, daily city-level checks beat a cheap weekly tile.
What the platform should show the practice owner
One page. Date range. Prompt list. Engine columns for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and AI Overviews. Pack rank can sit in a second page from BrightLocal. Do not average them.
Site: promptwatch.com. A single brand can start on Explore or Essential when country-level targeting is enough. State or city targeting needs Professional at $245/mo. Multi-location groups that want unlimited projects can use agency Kick-off at $199/mo. The wider tools list is there if an agency already standardized on something else.
FAQ
If we are #1 in the map pack, why watch ChatGPT?
Because patients who start in ChatGPT never see the pack. A #1 pin does not book that visit.
Is "dentist near me" even trackable if the model uses location?
Track the city-qualified version. Log the session location in the tool. Do not pretend a logged-out sample clones every patient's phone.
Can we use average Google position as the AI rank?
No. A URL can sit at #1 and stay uncited in the answer. A directory you do not rank for can take the citation.
Do we drop BrightLocal?
No. Maps is still a local rank. This platform is the chatbot and Overviews rank.
What to do this week
- Export this month's map-pack report and leave it alone. That is still the Maps rank.
- Write 12 city-qualified prompts, including "dentist near me" with the city named and two procedure prompts.
- Run them in ChatGPT and Perplexity. Write the named practices in order.
- Load the list into Promptwatch on Professional or an agency plan, with city (and state, if you have multiple offices) turned on.
- Fix the location or service page that should have been the cited URL. Re-check the same 12 in 14 days.
