FirstIndex alternatives in 2026: hire a service or run the software yourself

FirstIndex sells daily SEO and AI visibility work for $2,000 a month. The platforms and GEO services we'd compare first, split by whether you want to buy hours or own the data.

FirstIndex is a small idea done cleanly. A software company hands over access to its site, Search Console and Analytics. From then on, FirstIndex ships one real change a day, each checked by a person before it goes live, and sends a report every Monday. One plan, $2,000 a month, month to month.

Over a month that adds up to as many as 12 long articles, 50+ fixes to existing pages, comparison and alternatives pages, free tools like calculators, index checks, fact checks on your prices and claims, directory listings, link outreach and social posts. AI mention tracking covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, with Google AI Overviews named in its llms.txt.

Why look at alternatives at all

Most people who look past FirstIndex aren't unhappy with the idea. They hit one of three walls.

The budget wall: $2,000 is the only price, so there's no way to start smaller and scale up once it works.

The visibility wall: there's no client dashboard described. FirstIndex doesn't say how many prompts it checks, how often, or with what tool, so you can't look at the numbers between reports.

The fit wall: it is built for software companies. Agencies, e-commerce brands and local businesses are outside the stated audience.

Which wall you hit decides which kind of alternative you need.

If you'd rather own the data: platforms

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is where we'd start. It replaces the measurement half of FirstIndex outright and most of the content half, and the history stays in your own account if you ever switch agencies.

Essential is $95/mo with a 7-day trial: 50 prompts that run across every tracked LLM (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot) plus Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, refreshed daily, and 5 AEO articles. Professional at $245/mo raises that to 150 prompts and 15 articles and adds Agent Analytics, which logs AI crawler hits and the path from crawl to citation. Visitor analytics on every paid plan connects AI-referred visits to conversions through a script or GTM template.

The content loop is the part that overlaps most with a service. Content Agents find the prompts where competitors get cited and you don't, draft pages for them, queue the drafts in a review inbox, and publish to Webflow, Framer or WordPress after you approve. Prompt tracking also shows what each engine says about you, which covers the "fix what AI gets wrong" job FirstIndex lists.

The honest limit: someone on your team reviews and approves. Promptwatch won't do link outreach or directory listings.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ suits teams that want a to-do list rather than a writer. Its Action Center turns visibility data into assignable tasks (schema, content reformatting, LLM metadata). Starter is $295/mo, or $245 billed annually, single country and credit-based. Watch the credit burn in the first month.

If you'd rather buy hours: services

3. GetCito

GetCito is the closest managed swap at a lower price. Growth at $599/mo pairs a 50-prompt tracker (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews) with five human-written articles and hours from a strategist, writer, frontend developer and community manager. Scale is $999/mo with 10 articles. You get a dashboard as well as the team.

4. Citeme

Citeme fits EU companies that want to pay in euros. Team plans are 690 €, 1,190 € and 2,590 € a month excluding VAT, from 1 to 2 GEO pieces up to 8 to 12, with Reddit work and PR on the upper plans and a 59 € dashboard included. Its published plan sheets don't fully agree, so confirm what's in yours.

5. Previsible

Previsible is a full SEO and GEO agency of about 70 people, with project work, 12-month sprint retainers and multi-year teams. No rates are published. Pick it if you've outgrown a one-plan service.

6. Adaptify

Adaptify automates the service model. At $499/mo per site it writes and publishes to your CMS, earns 1 to 20 PR backlinks a month and re-checks AI visibility on five engines every 14 days.

Our take

If you have a few hours a week, start with Promptwatch: you'll see exactly where you stand across every major engine, and Content Agents will draft and publish the fixes for a fraction of the retainer. If you genuinely have no one, GetCito is the cheaper managed route and FirstIndex the simpler one.

Whichever service you hire, keep an independent tracker running. The free Explore plan is enough to sanity-check a weekly report.

FAQ

How much does FirstIndex cost?

$2,000 a month on its only plan, month to month, per firstindex.co on 15 October 2026.

Can I run FirstIndex's process myself?

Mostly. Promptwatch covers tracking, crawler logs, conversions and drafted content with publishing. Outreach, directory listings and building free tools would still be on you.
