Honeyb vs Proofsource (2026): bundled articles or pay-per-question tracking?

Honeyb bundles daily tracking with 5 to 30 published articles a month from $29/mo. Proofsource prices each question per engine from $9/mo and adds confidence intervals. Which to buy.

Honeyb sells a plan: a set number of prompts and engines, plus an agent that writes and publishes articles every month. Proofsource sells a meter: you pay per brand for the check cadence and then per question on each engine, and every percentage comes with error bars. Both also join AI crawler traffic to citations.

Honeyb puts your money into output; Proofsource puts it into measurement you can defend in a meeting. Promptwatch sits in the table as the benchmark that does both.

Side by side

All Honeyb and Proofsource figures were read on their pricing pages, llms.txt files and crawler feature pages on 20 October 2026.

How Honeyb works

Honeyb, run from Riga, tracks prompts daily on ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, DeepSeek, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, and maps the sources and Reddit threads behind the answers. A Content Agent writes articles from your visibility gaps and publishes them to WordPress, Ghost, Shopify, Webflow, Wix or a custom endpoint.

The Minimum gives 10 prompts on one engine and 5 articles. Multi-Model at $79 ($63 annual) gives 50 prompts, 3 engines and 15 articles. Full Spectrum at $199 ($159 annual) gives 100 prompts, all 8 engines and 30 articles. An answer API is sold separately at $0.03 per answer.

The crawler module is a real server-log product. You forward an existing log stream, Honeyb reverse-resolves each request to separate real AI crawlers from spoofed ones, and it matches crawls to citations. Two things are missing from the pages we read: which plans include it, and which log sources or CDNs it accepts by name.

How Proofsource works

Proofsource comes from Grovio Labs, a Delaware company. (Not ProveSource, the popup tool.) It asks your buyer questions on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, keeps every answer with its sources and a screenshot, and reports mention rate and share of voice with a 95% Wilson interval.

The price card takes a minute to learn. Each brand pays $28 a month for daily checks or $7 for weekly, then a price per question on each engine. Claude costs more per question because, per the page, it reads about 14k words per answer. Questions above 50 per brand are 20% off. There are no overages.

Its AI Traffic view connects a Cloudflare zone or a log drain, verifies bots against published IP ranges or reverse DNS, and sorts pages into crawled and cited, crawled but never cited, or cited but rarely crawled. GA4 referrals and conversions are added too, but the Proofsource team sets that up with you on a call.

Who should pick which

Pick Honeyb if:

  • you want published articles every month and don't have a writer
  • you want Grok and DeepSeek covered, and $199 a month for all 8 engines fits
  • several colleagues need logins without paying per seat

Pick Proofsource if:

  • you track a small, precise set of questions and want to pay only for those
  • you report to people who will challenge the numbers
  • you run an agency: the workspace is free, clients get white-label reports, and you keep 80% of any markup

Before signing, ask Honeyb which plan includes crawler data and which log sources it accepts; its pricing page doesn't say. Ask Proofsource to confirm your engine list, since its pricing table shows 10 engines for every brand while only four are self-serve.

The Promptwatch option

Promptwatch covers the chain both tools are reaching for: AI crawl, citation, visit, conversion. Agent Analytics logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and the Meta AI crawler, with the crawl-to-citation path and error tracking. Log sources are documented: Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN or custom HTTP. Visitor analytics ties AI-referred sessions to conversions through a script or GTM template that you install yourself, no call required.

Content Agents publish to Webflow, Framer and WordPress through a review inbox. Professional at $245 a month includes 150 prompts, 18,000 responses, 25M crawler logs, 1M visitor events and 15 AEO articles.

Verdict

Honeyb is the better buy for a small team that wants content shipped on a schedule. Proofsource is the better buy for a careful analyst or a small agency that wants honest statistics and per-question pricing. Teams that have to prove AI search is working should start with Promptwatch Professional: it's the only one of the three that documents its crawler sources, puts crawler logs on a named plan and tracks conversions self-serve.

FAQ

Which is cheaper, Honeyb or Proofsource?

Proofsource starts lower at $9 a month, but that buys 5 weekly questions on ChatGPT. Honeyb's lowest plan is $29 a month ($23 annual) for 10 daily prompts on one engine plus 5 articles.

Do Honeyb and Proofsource track AI crawlers?

Both do. Honeyb reads forwarded server logs; Proofsource reads a Cloudflare zone or a log drain. Both verify bots and join crawls to citations.
