Amplitude AI Visibility vs Similarweb (2026): your own visitors or the whole market?

Amplitude AI Visibility is free on every Amplitude plan but tracks only ChatGPT and AI Overview. Similarweb models AI referral traffic market-wide from $125/mo. Which analytics bet fits.

Both of these come from analytics companies adding AI search to products people already pay for. Amplitude AI Visibility works from first-party data: a small prompt tracker sits next to the funnels, replays and revenue reports for visitors on your own site. Similarweb works from panel data, estimating how much traffic AI assistants send across a whole category, competitors included. One tells you what your AI visitors do. The other tells you how the market is shifting.

Neither is really a GEO platform, and that matters for the decision. Amplitude's pages were read on 20 October 2026. Similarweb's details come from its entry in our catalog. Promptwatch is the third column because it is built for exactly the job both of these handle at the edges.

How Amplitude AI Visibility works

It's a module inside Amplitude. It reports a visibility score, share of voice and competitor rankings across a prompt set, shows the sources LLMs cite, flags sentiment, and suggests page fixes such as clearer headings, shorter paragraphs and FAQ blocks. That alone wouldn't stand out. What sets it apart is what sits behind it. You can build a cohort of AI-referred visitors, watch their sessions in Session Replay, run a Web Experimentation test on their landing pages, and chart the path from AI referral to purchase.

Amplitude's FAQ is unusually candid about the limits. It tracks ChatGPT and Google AI Overview only, and you cannot switch models. Prompts are generated by asking LLMs what's relevant to your brand, because OpenAI and Google don't share real queries. Prompt capacity, refresh cadence and some capabilities depend on your plan and account configuration, and none of those numbers is published. Scheduled refreshes can pause if nobody opens a brand report for a while. The landing page's meta description mentions Claude, while the FAQ on the same page lists only the two engines.

One naming trap: the "Agent Analytics" on Amplitude's pricing page covers AI agents inside your own product. It has nothing to do with AI crawlers on your site.

How Similarweb works

Similarweb brings its panel-based traffic intelligence to AI search. Our catalog entry describes AI referral traffic measurement, category-level demand shifts, competitor traffic benchmarking and market intelligence dashboards. The question it answers is a business one: how much demand is actually moving through AI channels in your category, and who's getting it.

The limits come with the method. Everything is modeled panel data, not measured numbers, and Similarweb itself calls small-site data directional. Data lags about four to eight weeks. Self-serve plans run from $125 to $542 a month on annual billing, with monthly billing about 20% more, but the AI Search Intelligence suite sits mostly in custom enterprise packages, which our catalog lists from about $50K a year. There is no prompt tracking or rank tracking in the entry.

Who should pick which

Pick Amplitude AI Visibility if you already run Amplitude. It costs nothing extra, and having AI mentions next to revenue data is useful for a product or growth team. Just don't treat two engines and unpublished limits as a measurement program.

Pick Similarweb if your question is market share: are AI assistants shifting traffic in your category, and toward which competitors? It suits strategy and investor decks more than weekly optimisation, and the useful AI data costs enterprise money.

Neither one tells a content or SEO team which prompts to win, which sources the engines cite, or whether AI crawlers read the site.

The Promptwatch option

That missing middle is what Promptwatch is for. Prompt tracking runs daily across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode and more, by monitoring the real interfaces. Each prompt comes with a search volume, a difficulty score and its query fan-outs, so you choose prompts by demand instead of accepting generated ones. Citation analytics shows which pages, Reddit threads and YouTube videos feed the answers. Agent Analytics records the AI crawlers on your own site. Visitor analytics ties AI referrals to conversions, which covers the part of Amplitude a GEO team needs without a full product analytics contract.

Essential at $95 a month includes 50 prompts and 200K visitor events. Professional at $245 adds 150 prompts, 25M crawler logs and 1M visitor events. Promptwatch also connects to Google Search Console and Looker Studio if your reporting already lives there.

Verdict

These two answer different questions, and both answer them well: Amplitude for what your own AI visitors do, Similarweb for where AI traffic flows across a market. Neither is the tool for improving your visibility in AI answers. For that, start with Promptwatch, and keep Amplitude if you already have it.

FAQ

Is Amplitude AI Visibility free?

It's included on every Amplitude plan, including Free, which allows 2M events a month without a card. Amplitude doesn't publish the prompt capacity or refresh cadence for each plan.

Does Similarweb track prompts in ChatGPT?

Our catalog entry describes AI referral traffic and market intelligence, not prompt tracking. Its AI Search Intelligence suite is mostly sold in custom enterprise packages.

Which tool shows AI crawlers on my site?

Neither, based on what each documents. Promptwatch's Agent Analytics does, from the Professional plan; details are on promptwatch.com.
