Citality review (2026): accurate mention counts, if you can afford the checks

Citality starts at $29/mo and has a second model verify every brand mention, but Claude, Perplexity and scheduled runs start at $149. We do the check math so you can size a plan.

What Citality is

Citality is an AI visibility tracker from Otron Pty Ltd, an Australian company. It tracks brand mentions and citations across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reports competitor share of voice, and lists the URLs each model cites.

Its pitch is accuracy. A second, independent model judges every result, so a brand called something like "Bloom" doesn't get credited each time a model mentions flowers. The judge scores its confidence, and unclear cases land in a human review queue. That is a real step up from matching a name in the text.

The buyer it fits best is an agency that reports mention counts to clients and gets asked to defend them.

Plans, as read on 20 October 2026

Growth$149/mo52502,500All six, 4 per test3 seats, 12 months

Annual billing saves about 10%: $309, $529, $1,599 and $4,299 a year. Every account starts on a free trial without a card. Agency adds white-label reports, data export, a REST API and an MCP server.

The check math

A check is one prompt run on one model. Perplexity costs three checks, and the high-accuracy judge doubles the cost of a test. Page tools draw from the same allowance: quick reviews cost 1, deeper content and structured-data reviews cost 3, and page-basics checks are free. So the headline prompt count is a ceiling, not what you can run every week.

Some worked examples from the published numbers:

  • Lite: 25 prompts on two engines is 50 checks per run. 250 checks gives you five full runs a month.
  • Growth: 250 prompts on four engines is 1,000 checks per run if none of them is Perplexity, so 2,500 checks covers two and a half full runs. Put Perplexity in the four and a run costs 1,500 checks.
  • Growth, weekly: to run every prompt once a week on four non-Perplexity engines, you can afford about 156 prompts, not 250.

Switch on the high-accuracy judge and halve all of those. This is the number to work out before choosing a plan, and Citality deserves credit for publishing everything you need to calculate it.

What works

The judge and the review queue are the best answer we've seen in this price range to inflated mention counts. Both Google AI surfaces, Overviews and AI Mode, are on the entry plan, which isn't true of every competitor. The free trial needs no card. And the definitions of what a check costs are plain enough to budget from.

The page tools, which review crawler access, content clarity and structured data, are a useful extra. They aren't part of the free trial.

What to check before you pay

  • Scheduled runs. The pricing table marks scheduled tracking as Growth and Agency only. The homepage lists it as a general feature. Ask which is true for Lite and Starter before buying either.
  • Engines. Claude and Perplexity start on Growth at $149.
  • History and seats. Lite and Starter keep three months of history with one seat. That's thin for a quarterly report.
  • Search coverage. Citality's search monitoring is limited to English desktop results in supported markets.
  • Downgrades. Lite is meant for a single business. Moving to it from a multi-brand plan hides the other brands until you upgrade again.

Where it stops

Citality measures answers well. It doesn't describe what happens around them. There are no AI crawler logs, so you can't see whether ChatGPT's or Perplexity's bots fetched the page you just fixed. There's no visitor analytics, so a gain in mentions can't be tied to traffic or sales. There's no content generation or publishing either. API access starts at $399.

When Promptwatch is the better buy

If accuracy is your only worry, Citality is a reasonable choice. Most teams have a second worry, though: proving the work paid off. Promptwatch covers that part. Agent Analytics logs real AI crawler visits and follows them through to citations. Visitor analytics, installed by script or GTM template, ties AI-referred sessions to conversions. Citation analytics shows the pages, domains, Reddit threads and YouTube videos the engines rely on.

Compare plan for plan. Promptwatch Essential at $95 includes 50 prompts on every tracked LLM with a daily refresh, MCP and API, which is the same prompt count as Citality Starter but with every engine and a daily schedule. Professional at $245 gives 150 prompts, 18,000 responses, 25M crawler logs and 15 AEO articles, and lands between Citality Growth and Agency in price. For agencies, Kick-off at $199 has unlimited projects and prompts with 10 seats.

Verdict

Citality takes mention accuracy more seriously than any tracker at this price, and the judge is worth having. The plans are the problem: the entry tiers lack Claude, Perplexity and (going by the pricing table) scheduled runs, and the checks run out fast. Buy Growth or skip it. For a program that has to show crawl, citation and conversion data, we'd pick Promptwatch Professional.

FAQ

How much does Citality cost?

Lite is $29 a month, Starter $49, Growth $149 and Agency $399. Annual billing takes about 10% off. Every account starts on a free trial without a card.

What counts as a check?

One prompt run against one model. A Perplexity run counts as three checks, and the high-accuracy judge doubles the cost of a test.

Does Citality track AI crawlers?

Its page tools review whether crawlers can access your pages. It doesn't describe logging actual crawler visits. Promptwatch does that with Agent Analytics on Professional; plans are listed on promptwatch.com.
