How to Improve E-E-A-T Signals So AI Models Trust My Content More

Practical E-E-A-T work for AI search: author pages, Organization schema, first-hand experience, and OAI-SearchBot access — then re-measure citations.

Improve E-E-A-T for AI search by making identity and first-hand experience visible on the page, mirroring that identity in ProfilePage, Organization, and Article markup, allowing OAI-SearchBot so ChatGPT Search can cite you, and then re-checking the same prompts to see if mentions moved. Models do not award an "E-E-A-T score." They retrieve sources that look like a real organization with a real author who did the work. Schema that does not match the HTML does not help. Trust work you never measure is a blog post, not a program.

If you need the definition first, read What Does E-E-A-T Mean for AI Search. This page is the checklist.

The order of operations

Do not start in a schema generator. Start with text a human can see.

  1. Who is speaking, on the page.
  2. What first-hand evidence exists.
  3. Markup that repeats the same strings.
  4. Bots that are allowed to fetch you for citation.
  5. Re-run prompts. Keep screenshots.

Google's helpful, people-first content documentation is still the rulebook as of August 2026. The AI optimization guide tells you not to create a parallel "for AI" site. The AI features page explains how Overviews and AI Mode use web content. None of them replace a citation count.

Author pages that models can actually use

Ship a URL per byline. Not a modal. Not a hover card.

Minimum viable author page:

  • Name as it appears on articles
  • Role and employer, matching the Organization name
  • First-hand bio ("ran GEO programs at…," "tested 40 trackers…") — not "passionate thought leader"
  • Photo you own
  • Links to a real external profile if you have one
  • List of articles, same byline string

Then add ProfilePage structured data. The JSON-LD name, url, and affiliation must match visible text. If the page says Jane Chen and the schema says J. Chen, MD, you taught two entities.

Article markup should author to that ProfilePage URL. Organization markup should be the same legal/brand name as the header and footer. Three types, one story.

Ahrefs and Semrush will not audit this for you in a way that matters to Claude. They will still tell you whether the author URL ranks. That is SEO. After the schema deploy, re-check the prompts you care about. Profound can warehouse that at enterprise scale. Promptwatch is the practical re-measure: daily ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews, screenshot on every check, from $29/mo, no writing layer — so you can see citation lift (or the lack of it) without pretending markup wrote the content.

First-hand experience, not credentials theater

Experience is the newest E. It is also the one AI retrieval punishes you for faking.

Do this:

  • Publish methods: sample size, date (use "as of August 2026" when you cite stats), tools used, what failed.
  • Original figures and screenshots. Stolen Unsplash "teamwork" is not experience.
  • Update timestamps that reflect a real edit, not a cron job.
  • Disclose limits. "We did not test Claude on this pass" is more trustworthy than a fake six-engine claim.

Do not do this:

  • Invent medical reviewers
  • Buy "E-E-A-T optimization" plugins
  • Stuff "as a large language model" or "according to AI" into intros
  • Claim Google uses a single E-E-A-T ranking factor — it does not

For YMYL topics, expertise has to be real. For software comparisons, a named practitioner who ran the tools beats an anonymous roundup.

Organization identity and off-site corroboration

Models triangulate. Your About page is one vertex.

  • One brand string everywhere (legal name vs product name: pick a primary, mention the other once).
  • Same logo URL in schema and in the header.
  • Contact, physical or clearly digital, that works.
  • Wikipedia / Wikidata / Crunchbase / LinkedIn Company only if they are accurate — do not create spam profiles.
  • Reviews and docs on third-party domains that use the same name.

Authoritativeness is other people repeating you. That is slow. It is still the highest-leverage E-E-A-T work, and no GEO tool writes those mentions for you. Otterly will not. Peec will not. Promptwatch will not. If a vendor implies otherwise, they are selling a writer, not trust.

Let the citation bot in

OpenAI documents two different user-agents in OAI-SearchBot vs GPTBot. Allow SearchBot if you want to be eligible for ChatGPT Search citations. GPTBot is training. You can allow one and deny the other. Many teams blocked both in 2024 and never revisited robots.txt.

Also check:

  • No accidental noindex on author and org pages
  • JS-only content that never appears in fetched HTML
  • Soft 404s on /author/*

Google still wants crawlable HTML for AI features. Same physics.

Re-measure. This is the step people skip.

Ship the author graph. Wait a few days. Run the same prompt list.

What to record:

  • Mention (name in the answer, yes/no)
  • Citation (URL in the answer, yes/no)
  • Who else was named
  • Screenshot

Google's GSC generative AI reports (June 2026; impressions in AI Overviews, AI Mode, Discover) tell you Google-side. Bing AI Performance (February 2026) tells you Copilot-side. Promptwatch's ChatGPT citation-types data reminds you clicks are not the whole story: in July 2026, ChatGPT citations were about 32.8% product pages and about 9.7% listicles (product pages were about 18% in March).

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude need a prompt tracker. After schema work, that re-check is the payoff. Promptwatch is what we use for citation lift on a budget: Pro $79 (alerts, competitors), Agency $199 (workspaces, white-label). Semrush can sit beside it for classic SEO. Profound if you already bought enterprise. Compare before/after on the same prompts, not on a vibes dashboard.

FAQ

How long until schema changes ChatGPT answers?

Not overnight. Retrieval caches. Give it days to a couple of weeks, then compare screenshots. If nothing moved, the problem is probably off-site corroboration or the page still lacking a citable claim — not a missing comma in JSON-LD.

Can I skip author pages for a B2B product site?

You can. You will look like a logo with a pricing table. Put a named expert on comparison and research pieces even if the homepage stays product-led.

Should ProfilePage go on every blog URL?

ProfilePage belongs on the profile URL. Articles point to it. Do not paste a ProfilePage graph onto a product page and hope.

Does allowing GPTBot improve E-E-A-T?

No. GPTBot is training. SearchBot is the citation path for ChatGPT Search. Different jobs.

Is BrightLocal part of this?

No. Listings and reviews are local SEO. They can support trust for a location business. They are not an AI-mention tracker and not a schema program for ChatGPT.

What to do this week

  1. Pick one money URL and one author. Rewrite the byline block so a stranger knows who did the work.
  2. Publish or fix the author URL. Add ProfilePage + Organization + Article that copy the visible names.
  3. Allow OAI-SearchBot. Fetch the page as Googlebot and as a raw URL to confirm HTML has the claims.
  4. Screenshot 10 prompts today (ChatGPT, Perplexity, one more engine).
  5. Next week, re-run those prompts. If you want that on a schedule with competitor SOV, start Promptwatch at $29/mo rather than waiting for Ahrefs Brand Radar to grow a Claude screenshot. Keep Semrush for keywords. Bring Profound in only if the rest of the org already did.
