Tools to Track ChatGPT Ads: OpenAI Advertising Platform Monitoring and ChatGPT Ads for Brands 2026

A 2026 buyer guide for brands: what OpenAI's own ad platform reports, what it cannot show, and which monitoring tools fill the gap for ChatGPT ads.

A brand that wants to track ChatGPT ads needs two kinds of tool, and most buyers only notice the first. OpenAI's Ads Manager tracks your own campaigns. It does not show anyone else's. Everything you want to know about competitors, prompts, and copy comes from a separate monitoring tool that watches real ChatGPT answers.

This guide splits the decision into those two halves, then walks through which monitoring tool fits which kind of brand.

Half one: OpenAI's own advertising platform

OpenAI runs ChatGPT ads through Ads Manager Beta, with self-serve sign-up at ads.openai.com. After a pilot from February through April 2026, OpenAI opened self-serve onboarding (advertiser FAQ). Self-serve availability is listed country by country, and the legal entity that advertises and pays must be based in an available country (Ads Manager Availability). The list on 2026-10-21 included the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, Japan, and most of the EU.

What Ads Manager reports: impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, average CPC, average CPM, and conversions (The Basics). There is also an Advertiser API with campaigns, ad groups, ads, insights, audit logs, a Conversions API, and a measurement pixel (developer docs).

What it does not report: other advertisers. Advertisers receive aggregated performance data on their own ads. You will not see who else bid on the conversations you wanted, what they wrote, or where they sent the click. OpenAI's FAQ also says there are no performance benchmarks across advertisers or industries yet.

If you buy ChatGPT ads, you need Ads Manager. It is free to use and you pay for media. It just answers a narrow question.

Half two: monitoring tools

A monitoring tool runs your buyer prompts in ChatGPT on a schedule and records the sponsored unit under each answer. The useful ones store the ad against the prompt and keep the history.

Which brand needs which tool

The brand that cares about organic first. Most brands reading this are not yet buying ChatGPT ads. They want to know whether a competitor is buying the slot under answers where they are cited, or under answers where they are missing. That brand wants ads and organic visibility on one prompt set. Promptwatch does this. Ads Radar's By Prompt table lists each prompt that attracted ads, the ad count, the latest ad date, and your all-time average visibility on that prompt. High ad count with low visibility is contested ground. High ad count with high visibility means someone is paying for space you already hold.

The paid search team moving budget into ChatGPT. This team thinks in auctions and share of voice. Adthena, a paid search intelligence company, launched a ChatGPT product that it says monitors placements across 300,000+ daily prompts, with a searchable ad library, competitor tracking, and "greenfield" prompts where nobody advertises yet. It is ads-only. If the same team also owns organic AI visibility, they will need a second tool.

The brand already running OpenAI campaigns. Gauge's feature page describes connecting your OpenAI Ads account to see spend, impressions, clicks, CTR, and CPC, and seeing the tracked prompts where your own ad appeared. Our catalog lists it from $599/mo with six engines. The catalog also notes no published crawler-log product and no visitor analytics with conversion attribution.

The budget buyer. LLM Pulse lists AI ads tracking from €49/mo. The default cadence is weekly, and ad campaigns can start and stop inside a week. Fine for a first look, thin for an ongoing program.

The questions to ask in every demo

  1. Do you capture from the real ChatGPT interface? Ads render in the product, below the answer.
  2. Which country does each monitor run from? OpenAI campaigns target by country and region, so geography changes what you see.
  3. Can I see the landing page each ad sends to?
  4. Can I filter ads by prompt type and date?
  5. Do you cover Google AI Overviews and AI Mode ads too? Promptwatch Ads Radar does. Many buyers forget Google sells ads inside AI answers as well.
  6. Which plan includes the ads feature? Ask for it in writing.

That last question catches people out. Promptwatch's Essential ($95/mo) and Professional ($245/mo) plans do not include Ads Radar as of 2026-10-21. It starts on Business ($579/mo) and is on every agency plan.

Our recommendation

Use OpenAI Ads Manager for your own campaigns, if you run any. For monitoring, start with Promptwatch. The decisive factor is not the ad capture alone, which several tools offer. It is that the same project tells you whether you are cited on that prompt, which page the answer used, whether ChatGPT's crawler fetched your page, and whether the traffic that did arrive converted. An ads feed tells you a competitor is spending. Promptwatch tells you what to do about it.
