Best AI SEO Tools 2026: Ranked for Google and AI Search
Ten AI SEO tools ranked for Google and AI answers, each with the question to ask the vendor. Promptwatch leads on crawler logs, AI-referred conversions and Content Agents.
"AI SEO tool" now covers two different purchases. One helps you rank on Google: keywords, links, audits and briefs, with an AI column bolted on. The other tells you whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity name and cite you, and ideally helps you change the answer. Most teams need both, and pricing pages rarely say which one you're paying for.
This guide ranks ten tools across both jobs, and gives you the question we'd put to each vendor before signing. If you only want the four classic names compared head to head, we did that in Ahrefs, Semrush, Surfer SEO and Clearscope compared. This list is wider and doesn't repeat that one.
How we picked
Every price, plan limit and feature below comes from the tool's entry in our catalog, which is built from vendor pricing pages and documentation. Where an entry doesn't publish something, we say so instead of estimating. We judged each tool on three questions:
- Does it measure AI answers beyond Google, often enough to read a trend?
- Does it explain why you won or lost, through citation sources or crawler data?
- Does it help you close the gap, or does the fix stay on your to-do list?
Classic SEO depth (backlinks, rank tracking, audits) counted as a reason to keep a tool in your stack. It did not count as a reason to rank it first. Our general method is in how we rank.
Bring this to every demo
Write 20 to 30 prompts the way a buyer would phrase them, not a copy of your keyword list. Add two competitors and the money pages you want cited. Then ask every vendor the same four things:
- Which engines run on the plan I'm being quoted, and how often?
- Is one prompt on five engines one unit of my allowance, or five?
- Can I see which URL was cited, or only whether my brand was named?
- After you find a gap, what do I get: a report, a task, or a published page?
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the only tool here that pairs AI search tracking with crawler logs, visitor analytics with conversions, and Content Agents that publish. Paid plans refresh prompts daily across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. Each prompt carries a search volume, a difficulty score and its query fan-outs, so you can prioritize before you write anything.
Citation analytics shows the cited page and domain, plus Reddit and YouTube citations. Agent Analytics logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and Meta's crawler, so you can tell whether the page you want cited was even fetched. Visitor analytics (a small script or a GTM template) ties AI-referred sessions to conversions. Content Agents run a content gap analysis and publish drafts to Webflow, Framer or WordPress through a review inbox.
Explore is free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only). Essential is $95/mo for 50 prompts, 6,000 responses and 200K visitor events. Professional at $245/mo adds 25M crawler logs, 150 prompts and 5 AEO articles. State and city tracking start on Business at $579/mo. Agency plans start at $199/mo.
Ask before signing: does the plan you need include crawler logs? Essential doesn't. They start on Professional.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ is the pick for a team that wants a task list more than a dashboard. It tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and AI Overviews and rolls the results into one GEO score. The Action Center turns gaps into assignable work like schema generation, content reformatting and LLM metadata changes. GA4, Shopify and Webflow revenue attribution are listed.
Starter is $295/mo ($245 billed annually) with unlimited seats and API access, but one country and credit-based usage. Our entry lists no crawler analytics and no Reddit monitoring. The ACE Citation Engine, personas and multi-region tracking sit on Enterprise.
Ask the vendor: how many credits will my prompt list burn in a month across every engine you track?
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI does something nobody else on this list does. Its Agent Experience Platform serves AI-optimized versions of your pages to LLM crawlers, while humans keep seeing the normal site. It also lists crawler traffic analytics and competitor benchmarking. Starter is $250/mo billed annually ($300 monthly) with 3 seats and 350 custom prompts. Growth is $417/mo annually. Nine engines is the Enterprise figure.
The gaps in our entry: data refreshes weekly, prompt credits are consumed per engine, and there's no visitor analytics tying AI referrals to conversions.
Ask the vendor: how do I review the crawler-facing version of a page before it goes out?
4. Semrush AI Toolkit
Semrush AI Toolkit is the easy yes for a team that already runs rank tracking in Semrush. It's a $99/mo add-on per domain with five engines, 25 prompts and one user, plus keyword-to-prompt mapping and SEO and GEO data in one report. Claude, Copilot and DeepSeek are held back for the sales-gated Enterprise AIO tier.
Cost follows your footprint: $99 per extra domain, $99 per extra seat, $60 per 50 extra prompts. The tracked prompts are generated approximations, not your own list.
Ask the vendor: can I replace the generated prompts with the exact wording my buyers use?
5. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs Brand Radar is category research at index scale. It measures your mention share against competitors in AI Overviews and assistants, then lets you jump into Ahrefs link and content data to work the gap. You need an Ahrefs plan (from $129/mo), then $199/mo per AI index or $699/mo for all six: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Custom prompts are $50/mo per 2,500 checks.
Prompts are modeled from Google keyword data, chatbot indexes refresh roughly monthly, and Claude isn't in the native indexes. It answers "how does our category look" better than "did we win this prompt this week."
Ask the vendor: when was the index I'm looking at last refreshed?
6. Search Atlas
Search Atlas is an SEO suite built around an automation agent called OTTO SEO, with AI article credits, rank tracking, audits and outreach. LLM Visibility is a module on top: mentions, sentiment, share of voice and position inside answers. Read the tiers carefully. Starter at $99/mo has no LLM Visibility at all. Growth at $199/mo covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode. Perplexity and Copilot arrive on Pro at $399/mo, and Agency at $999/mo adds white-label.
Ask the vendor: one credit is one query on one platform per refresh, so how many credits will my list need each month?
7. SE Ranking AI Tracker
SE Ranking AI Tracker is the budget bundle. The core suite is about $129/mo on Pro, and the AI Search add-on starts at $89/mo for 200 checks across five engines. A check is one prompt on one engine, so a single pass of 40 prompts on five engines uses all 200. Bigger tiers are $179 for 450 checks and $345 for 1,000. Citation-level tracking is listed as still under development, and Claude is on the roadmap.
Ask the vendor: how many checks does my list use per month at the refresh rate I want?
8. Conductor
Conductor is enterprise SEO with AI answer visibility sitting next to traditional search metrics. Recommendations flow into the briefs, tasks and approvals large content teams already run through it. Pricing is custom, with a median around $49K a year in Vendr data plus a one-time implementation fee of $20K to $150K. It diagnoses, and your team still executes.
Ask the vendor: what does year one cost once implementation is included?
9. Surfer
Surfer is here for the writers. It's a content editor with optimization scoring that now accounts for AI answers, plus a small AI tracker. On Essential ($99/mo) that tracker is 25 prompts, weekly, ChatGPT only. Daily tracking on five engines needs Scale at $219/mo with 50 prompts. Keep it if your writers already work in it, and don't count it as your AI visibility platform. Clearscope fills the same slot from $129/mo, and the four-tool comparison covers both.
Ask the vendor: which engines and refresh rate come with my writers' plan?
10. Outrank
Outrank is an agentic content autopilot. It researches keywords, writes and publishes 30 articles a month on a schedule, and runs a backlink exchange, all for $99/mo with unlimited users. It publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer, Wix, Notion, Ghost and Next.js. It ranks last because its entry lists no prompt tracking, citation analytics or crawler logs. Without a tracker next to it, you get volume with no feedback.
Ask the vendor: can I require a human approval before each article goes live?

Who should pick which
Keep your SEO suite for keywords, links and audits. Ahrefs, Semrush or SE Ranking is still where that work belongs, and their AI add-ons make a fair second opinion.
Then add one platform for AI answers. If you have to show a budget owner why you lost a prompt and what winning it was worth, pick Promptwatch. Crawler logs show whether the page was fetched, citation analytics shows what got cited instead, and visitor analytics shows whether the referral converted. If your team wants a task queue and can model credit usage, AthenaHQ fits. If the crawler-facing version of your pages is the priority, look at Scrunch AI. An enterprise team already paying for Conductor should test its AI layer before buying anything new.
Writers keep Surfer or Clearscope. A team that wants articles published without a writer can try Outrank, as long as something else is measuring the result.
Our recommendation
Most people searching for an AI SEO tool already own the Google half. What they're missing is a record of what AI engines say about them and the reasons behind it, plus a way to change it. Promptwatch covers that gap in one workspace, from the free Explore plan up to Professional once you need crawler logs. Load your 25 buyer prompts and see where you stand at promptwatch.com.
