Best GEO software for service-area businesses (2026)

Plumbers, roofers, cleaners and mobile clinics sell in towns where they have no storefront. These GEO tools can track AI recommendations in each town you serve, ranked by how well they handle a service area.

A service-area business has a strange relationship with local search. The office might be in one suburb, but the jobs come from eight towns around it. Google Business Profile lets you list a service area. AI assistants don't have a service-area field. When someone in the next town asks ChatGPT for "an emergency plumber who can come today," the answer depends on what the model has read about plumbers in that town. Your office address may not count for much there.

That makes tool choice tricky. Many local GEO tools anchor everything to a business address. If your best market is a town where you have no address, those tools can't see it. We ranked six options by how well they cover a service area rather than a storefront.

What a service-area business needs

Three things, in this order. You need to set the town yourself, without an address. You need the same questions asked in every town so the results are comparable. And you need to know which town page, if any, AI is reading. Price matters, but a cheap tool that only measures your office's postcode measures the wrong market.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch treats location as a setting. Each monitor has a country, optional state, optional city, language and persona, so you can build one monitor per town in your service area with the same prompts in each. They run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and more.

The service-area payoff is the website data. Most service-area businesses have one page per town, and Agent Analytics shows whether AI crawlers actually fetch each one, with errors. Citation analytics show which sources AI cites in each town, often a regional directory or a local Reddit thread. Visitor analytics shows whether AI-referred visitors book, and where they're located.

City and state tracking are included from Business at $579/mo (350 prompts across up to 5 projects) and on every agency plan from Kick-off at $199/mo. Essential and Professional track by country only. For a single owner-operator that's a real price step. For a business doing jobs across a dozen towns, it's the only option here that measures each town and the page behind it.

2. Local Falcon

Local Falcon is the closest thing to a service-area map. It sends one prompt from every point on a grid, from 3x3 up to 21x21, and shows where AI recommends you. Its knowledge base suggests a 2-mile radius in cities, 5 in suburbs and 10 in rural areas, which gives you a starting point to adjust to your own service radius. You can switch off grid points over water so they don't use credits.

The limit is that a grid has one centre. A service area that stretches 30 miles along a highway needs several grids, and every point is a credit. Starter is $24.99/mo for 7,500 credits, and a single 9x9 scan uses 81. Local Falcon also doesn't document crawler logs or conversion tracking.

3. AIrketing

AIrketing sets country, city and language on each prompt, so a service area is just a list of prompts per town. Weekly runs cover ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overview and Google Search, and the Google local pack shows next to the AI results with nearby competitors and ratings. Pro is €18/mo (€16 annually, excl. VAT) for 20 prompts, which is one town at 20 prompts or four towns at five. Built for Spanish-speaking markets.

4. BrightLocal Local AI Visibility

BrightLocal Local AI Visibility anchors up to 20 prompts to each business location on ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews. For a service-area business that usually means one location and one set of results. It's included on BrightLocal's Track plan from $41/mo, so it's a reasonable first look if you use BrightLocal for citations. It won't show the towns you serve but don't sit in.

5. Synup AEO

Synup AEO writes 16 prompts per location that name the category and city. Same issue as BrightLocal: the city is your location's city. Monthly refresh, three engines, $49/mo for one location. Useful as a monthly check if you're on Synup for listings and reviews.

6. AIShortlist

AIShortlist ties one city to each question set. Lite at $29/mo covers one set of 10 questions, weekly, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Fine for one town. A second town needs Growth at $199/mo.

How to decide

If you only need to know how you look around your office, Local Falcon's grid or a bundled BrightLocal score will do, and both are cheap.

If the money comes from the towns around you, pick a tool that lets you set those towns. Among those, Promptwatch is the one that also shows whether each town page is crawled, cited and converting. A service-area business usually has a handful of thin town pages, and knowing which ones AI ignores tells you where to spend the next writing budget. Try it at promptwatch.com. If you're an agency handling several trades, Kick-off covers every client project.
