Promptwatch vs Synup AEO (2026): which local GEO tool tracks cities better?

Synup AEO gives each location a monthly AI report from 16 prompts it writes. Promptwatch runs your own prompts by city, daily, and shows crawlers and conversions. A sourced side-by-side for multi-location brands and agencies.

Synup and Promptwatch both claim location-level AI visibility, but they come at it from opposite ends. Synup AEO is an AI module bolted onto a local marketing suite, priced per location, with the prompts written for you. Promptwatch is an AI visibility platform where location is one of the settings you control. Which is better depends on whether you want a hands-off report per store or a measurement program per market.

How Synup builds a location report

Synup's AEO module is labelled beta. For each location you click Generate Report, the screen shows a credit estimate (240 credits when Synup's help article was written), and Synup writes 16 local discovery prompts. They follow patterns like best, top-rated, affordable, specific services and open now. They name the category and the city but not the business. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity answer each one, and the report is ready a few minutes later.

You get a 0 to 100 AI Visibility score, a prompt-by-engine coverage grid, competitor gaps, a rank-tier breakdown, sentiment phrases, and citation coverage that splits sources into active, detected but not cited, and missing. Reports refresh monthly, with quarterly and yearly comparison views.

Synup's help center is candid about the score: it only measures whether and how high the business is named. Ratings, reviews and listings don't feed it. A location can score 81 next to a reviews factor of 0, and Synup says that's not a contradiction.

How Promptwatch tracks a city

In Promptwatch, a monitor carries the location: country, optional state, optional city, language and persona. You write the prompts or generate them from your site, and they run daily on the models you pick: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Each prompt has a search volume and difficulty score, so you can drop the ones nobody asks.

Because the city is a setting and not an address, you can track markets you serve without a storefront. A home services company based in one suburb can watch five neighbouring cities.

The differences that matter

You control the questions in Promptwatch. The Synup pages we read don't describe adding your own prompts. If your buyers ask "who installs heat pumps that qualify for the rebate" and Synup's templates ask "best HVAC company," you're measuring a different market.

Freshness differs too. Synup refreshes monthly and has no customer-facing way to regenerate the current month. Promptwatch runs daily and shows prompt trends with what changed between checks. A monthly snapshot can show direction. It can't tell you that a competitor entered the answer on the 9th.

Then there's what happens after the answer. Synup's strength is action on the suite side: its Sydekick agent can work on listings, reviews and social, which feed what AI reads. Promptwatch's strength is diagnosis on the website side. Agent Analytics logs AI crawler visits to each location page, with errors, and visitor analytics ties AI-referred visits to conversions. Citation analytics go down to individual pages, Reddit threads and YouTube videos.

Pricing

Synup AEOPriceLocations
Solo$49/mo1
Premium$299/moup to 10, white-label
Pro$499/moup to 25
Scale$899/moup to 50

Every Synup plan includes every feature, and annual billing saves 20%. The 14-day trial covers Solo only. One thing to confirm: credit allowances were shown "quadrupled for launch" and guaranteed only for accounts created on or before 30 September, so new accounts should check their real allowance.

Promptwatch includes city and state tracking from Business at $579/mo (5 projects, 350 prompts, 42,000 responses) and on every agency plan: Kick-off $199/mo, Growth $399/mo and Scale $799/mo, all with unlimited projects and prompts. Essential ($95/mo) and Professional ($245/mo) are country-level only.

At ten locations Synup Premium costs about half of Promptwatch Business. But Synup's price also buys listings, reviews and social tools. If you'd pay for those anyway, the AI module is close to free.

Who should pick which

Choose Synup AEO if you're a franchise or an agency that wants Synup for listings and reviews anyway, and a monthly, white-labelled AI report per location is enough. Treat it as a health check.

Choose Promptwatch if AI visibility is the program and not a side metric. That means your own prompts, daily data, more engines, cities beyond your addresses, and an answer when someone asks why a market dropped. Many multi-location teams will keep their listings suite and add Promptwatch for the measurement. Start at promptwatch.com.
