Morningscore vs SE Ranking (2026): Which affordable SEO suite tracks AI search better?
Morningscore tracks ChatGPT and AI Overviews inside one plan from $69/mo. SE Ranking covers five engines through a metered add-on. The math, the limits and who should pick which.
Small teams usually want one SEO tool, one bill, and some idea of how they show up in AI answers. Morningscore and SE Ranking AI Tracker both offer that, but they make opposite bets. Morningscore covers Google and ChatGPT only, on purpose, and puts everything in the plan price. SE Ranking covers five engines but sells AI tracking as a metered add-on on top of the core suite.
Which bet suits you depends on how far beyond Google your customers search. We have also included Promptwatch as a benchmark, for the point where AI visibility stops being a side panel and becomes a channel you report on.

Morningscore: narrow on purpose
Morningscore is a friendly SEO tool built around missions, a gamified to-do list on top of rank tracking, site health and backlinks. The AI side has three parts. A ChatGPT tracker checks prompts when you add them and then every 7 days, showing whether you appear in the answer text or the cited sources. An AI Overviews tracker piggybacks on the rank tracker, so every keyword you track gets a daily AI Overview check across 167 countries. And a GEO Score rates you and your competitors on 100 prompts it picks for your industry, tracked daily.
Pricing is all-in. Lite at $69 includes 2 users, 3 websites, 100 keywords and 10 ChatGPT prompts. Business at $99 moves to 4 users, 10 websites, 500 keywords and 100 prompts. Pro ($159) and Premium ($299) scale to 500 and 2,000 prompts. Every plan has the full tool and API access, and the 14-day trial needs no card. Yearly billing gives two months free but locks you in for 12 months.
Where it stops is coverage. Morningscore says plainly that it reports on Google and ChatGPT only, so Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot are out. The ChatGPT data comes from a third-party scraping provider, and checks only run weekly. Nothing is documented on AI crawlers or AI-referred traffic.
SE Ranking: more engines, with a meter
SE Ranking's AI Search add-on rides on its core suite and tracks AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini using UI-based scraping. It keeps cached snapshots of each answer, so you can open the response and check the tool's reading of it. Competitor visibility, a sources module, an API and white-label reports round it out.
The meter is the part to model. The $89 tier buys 200 checks, and a check is one prompt on one engine. Fifty prompts across all five engines is 250 checks, already over the allowance. The next tiers are $179 for 450 checks and $345 for 1,000. Running 100 prompts across five engines once a month (500 checks) puts you on the top tier, around $474 a month with the suite.
The experience draws complaints too. AI features are spread across three interfaces, sentiment is an unexplained score, and citation-level attribution (which page earned the mention) is still in development. An independent audit concluded that point-in-time citation counts at this sampling depth are directional only.
Who should pick which
Pick Morningscore if your customers mostly find you through Google and ChatGPT, and you want predictable pricing with no add-ons. Business at $99 is the realistic starting tier.
Pick SE Ranking if you need Perplexity and Gemini in client reports, or white-label output for an agency. Budget from prompts times engines, not the sticker price.
For ChatGPT alone, Morningscore is hard to beat on cost: 100 prompts a week is $99 with the suite included. The same 100 prompts weekly on SE Ranking, on ChatGPT only, comes to roughly 430 checks a month, which means the $179 tier plus the suite.
Where Promptwatch fits
Both suites treat AI search as one more report. Once you have to grow and justify it, the gaps show: neither documents AI crawler activity or ties AI answers to visits.
Promptwatch Essential at $95 a month gives 50 prompts that run across all tracked LLMs, refreshed daily, with no per-engine multiplication. It includes 6,000 responses and visitor analytics for 200K events. Citation analytics shows which page, domain, Reddit thread or YouTube video earned each citation. Professional at $245 adds Agent Analytics, which logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot hits with crawl-to-citation paths, plus 150 prompts and city-level tracking. Content Agents can then publish pages to Webflow or Framer through a review inbox.
Promptwatch doesn't do rank tracking, site audits or backlinks, so a small team may keep Morningscore or SE Ranking for that.
Verdict
Morningscore is the simpler, cheaper buy for Google-first teams, and SE Ranking reaches more engines if you'll manage the check meter. Once AI search is part of your reporting, we would pick Promptwatch for that layer. Essential costs less than SE Ranking's suite plus add-on and covers more engines than either; Professional adds the crawler and conversion data both leave out.
FAQ
Does Morningscore track Perplexity or Gemini?
No. Its pricing FAQ says it crawls and reports data from Google and ChatGPT only.
How many AI checks do I need on SE Ranking?
Multiply prompts by engines by how often you refresh. Fifty prompts across five engines once a month is 250 checks, which is more than the 200 on the $89 tier.
Should a small team use Promptwatch alongside Morningscore or SE Ranking?
That is the setup we would suggest: the SEO suite for rankings and audits, Promptwatch for AI visibility, crawler logs and AI-referred conversions.
