Surfient review (2026): a Shopify AI-readiness app, with a 404 to explain

Surfient audits and fixes Shopify catalogues for AI engines, free or $39/mo, but its App Store link returned a 404 and its pages disagree on engines. What to verify before installing.

What Surfient is and who it's for

Surfient is an AI-readiness app for Shopify stores, made by Onviqa Inc. At its core is an audit of more than 80 checkpoints across products, collections and policy pages. Surfient then publishes the fixes through the Shopify API: schema through a Theme App Extension, AI-written FAQs, author bios and catalogue rewrites, and machine-readable files including llms.txt, llms-full.txt, ai-sitemap.xml and an NDJSON product feed.

Around that sit a Hallucination Guard for AI misstatements about your brand, a map of 13+ authority platforms, GA4-based AI traffic and revenue attribution, and a citation monitor.

It suits a Shopify merchant whose catalogue AI engines can't parse well and who wants the technical work done inside the store. The monitoring part is small, and Surfient doesn't pretend otherwise on its pricing page.

What you get per plan

Plans were read on surfient.com/pricing and surfient.com/llms.txt on 20 October 2026. Billing runs through Shopify for one store, with no trial and no annual contract.

Most of the Enterprise rows still say "Rolling out H1 2026". Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Grok are on the roadmap for monitoring.

What works

Fixes actually ship. Surfient pushes schema, files and copy into the store through the Shopify API with previews and one-click rollback, so the audit doesn't end as a to-do list for a developer you don't have. For a merchant, the gap between a GEO report and a changed product page is usually the expensive part, and Surfient closes it.

The flat $39 is easy to budget, with no per-prompt or per-seat metering. And to its credit, the pricing page marks which features are live and which are roadmap.

Five things to verify before you plan around it

  1. Can you install it? Every install button on the site pointed to apps.shopify.com/surfient, which returned a 404 on 20 October 2026. The pricing FAQ says the app has been submitted to the Built for Shopify programme. Check the App Store listing yourself before you budget.
  2. How many engines? The homepage logo strip names nine engines, including DeepSeek, Kagi and You.com. Another homepage section says weekly probes across five. The Premium card says "6-engine monitor". The pricing FAQ, which is the most specific source, says three are live.
  3. How many checks? The features page says the audit scores 47 signals. The pricing page says 80+ checkpoints.
  4. How many plans? llms.txt describes two plans while the pricing page lists three.
  5. Whose numbers? The homepage dashboard figures, the testimonial and the ROI calculator's 38% average lift are vendor material, not audited results.

None of these is fatal for a young product. Together they mean you should test Surfient in your own store before telling anyone what it monitors.

Where it falls short as a visibility tool

As a tracker, Surfient is thin. Free watches 3 prompts on Perplexity. Premium watches 25 prompts on three engines. That is enough to spot a gross problem and not enough to measure a catalogue. There's no description of AI crawler logs, so you can't see whether ChatGPT's crawler picked up the schema you just shipped. Product-level shopping placements in ChatGPT aren't described either.

When Promptwatch is the better buy

The sensible way to read Surfient is as the store-side half of a two-part setup. Promptwatch covers the measurement half. It tracks prompts daily across every major engine, monitoring the real interfaces. ChatGPT Shopping tracking shows how your products appear in ChatGPT's shopping results, and Ads Radar tracks sponsored placements. Citation analytics shows which pages, Reddit threads and YouTube videos the engines rely on, and visitor analytics ties AI-referred sessions to conversions through a script or GTM template.

Promptwatch has no Shopify publishing integration. Its Content Agents publish to WordPress, Webflow and Framer. So for a Shopify store, the work splits naturally: Surfient (once installable) ships the catalogue fixes, and Promptwatch shows whether they moved anything. Essential at $95 a month gives 50 prompts across all tracked LLMs, twice Surfient Premium's 25. Professional at $245 adds 150 prompts and Agent Analytics, which helps if your storefront runs behind a supported CDN or a custom HTTP log source.

Verdict

Surfient is a Shopify optimisation tool with a tracker attached, and the optimisation side is detailed and practical. The monitoring is small, the site contradicts itself on engine counts, and the App Store link was dead when we checked. Install it if the listing is live and your catalogue needs schema and feeds. Measure with Promptwatch.
