Best AEO Tools for Agencies in 2026
Answer engine optimization tools for agencies, ranked on Google AI Overviews and AI Mode coverage, regional and local tracking, Search Console ties, and a path to the fix.
Agencies tend to meet answer engine optimization through Google first. A client's organic clicks dip, someone opens the results page, and an AI Overview is sitting above the first blue link, citing a competitor's guide. Then the client asks whether they show up in ChatGPT too. AEO for an agency is the work of answering both questions for every client, in every market they sell in, and then changing what the answers say.
That framing changes what a good AEO tool looks like. It has to cover Google AI Overviews and AI Mode by region, not only chat assistants. It has to tie AI answers back to the keywords and Search Console data the client already reports on. It has to handle locations, because "near me" and city prompts give different answers in different places. And it needs a route from "a competitor is cited" to a page you can ship. This list ranks AEO tools for agencies on those four tests. Competitor details come from each tool's entry in our directory. Promptwatch details come from its llms.txt, read on 2026-10-21.
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch passes all four tests on one agency plan. It reads Google AI Overviews with region-specific tracking and AI Mode in every supported country, next to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, and the other tracked models, from the real interfaces rather than API samples. Every agency plan includes state and city tracking, so a regional client's AI Overview results are not averaged into a national figure.
The Search Console tie is direct. Google Search Console connects per project, and Prompt Explorer suggests prompts from a client's Search Console queries and ranking keywords, so the AEO prompt set starts from the searches the client already gets. Search Insights overlays Google and Bing traffic per page with AI crawls, citations, and clicks, which is the view an SEO account manager needs when organic clicks fall on a page that AI Overviews now answer. Query fan-outs show the searches an engine ran behind each answer, which often explains why a competitor's page got pulled in.
For sponsored answers, Ads Radar is on every agency plan and captures ads in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews, and AI Mode for tracked prompts, with the advertiser, copy, landing page, and triggering prompt. It does not cover Perplexity. For the fix, content gap analysis scores each client's pages against the prompts AI answers, and citation analytics shows the exact page or domain that won.
Agency plans are Kick-off at $199 a month, Growth at $399, and Scale at $799, all with unlimited projects, unlimited prompts, 10 seats, crawler logs, visitor analytics, and Data Studio. The free Explore plan covers ChatGPT only, so AI Overviews and AI Mode testing needs a paid trial.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ names AI Overviews and AI Mode among the engines on its Starter tier, alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Grok. Its strength for AEO work is execution. The Action Center turns gaps into tasks for schema generation, content reformatting, and LLM metadata, and schema and entity tagging run automatically at scale.
For agencies, the regional test is where it struggles. Starter, at $295 a month ($245 annual), is single country, and multi-region tracking and personas are Enterprise features. A client with stores in three countries pushes you up a tier straight away. Usage is credit based.
3. SEOmonitor
SEOmonitor is built for SEO agencies, and its AEO coverage reflects that. Every account gets daily AI Overview detection with brand mentions, citations, and citation rank, measured against the keyword set you already track and weighted by Google search volume. For the client who reports on keywords, that is the least disruptive way to add an AI column.
The chat side is an add-on. AI Search tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini (AI Mode), Perplexity, and Claude is Pro only, at €19 per 1,000 credits a month, updates weekly, and runs on the site's full keyword list. Claude costs five credits per keyword. Base plan prices were not verified in our listing.
4. DemandSphere
DemandSphere tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, and AI Overviews daily, next to deep SERP feature data. Chat Rewind replays past AI answers, which is useful when a client asks what the Overview said last month. Unlimited users and domains plus API, Search Console, GA4, and Slack on every plan suit agency rosters.
Prompts and keywords share one daily budget, with one prompt costing ten keywords. Starter ($79 a month annual, $95 monthly) allows 1,000 keywords or 100 prompts, so heavy AEO tracking crowds out rank tracking. AI crawler log analytics is an Enterprise add-on.
5. Local Falcon
Local Falcon is the AEO tool for local agencies. It runs geo-grid scans on ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Grok, where every grid point is a separate AI sample, and reports Share of AI Voice next to Google Maps visibility for the same keyword. MCP, REST API, and Looker Studio connections help with reporting.
Credits are the constraint. A 9x9 scan uses 81 credits, so ten keywords on a 9x9 grid four times a month is 3,240 credits for one location. Starter is $24.99 a month for 7,500 credits, enough for about two locations at that depth. Monthly credits expire. It does not describe crawler logs or AI-referred conversions.
6. BrightLocal Local AI Visibility
BrightLocal Local AI Visibility is included on BrightLocal's Track, Manage, and Grow plans, from $41 a month for one location ($31 billed annually). It scores each location 0 to 100 on ChatGPT, AI Mode, and AI Overviews against auto-detected local competitors, and routes citation gaps into Citation Builder. That closes a real loop for local clients.
Agency limits are plain. Prompts are capped at 20 per location. Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude are not tracked yet. And per the help center, there is no export or white-label reporting yet, so clients see results inside BrightLocal.
7. Semrush AI Toolkit
Semrush AI Toolkit tracks brand mentions and links in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, mapped against the keyword universe a Semrush agency already tracks. It costs $99 a month per domain, plus $99 per extra user and $60 per 50 extra prompts, which adds up fast across a roster. Tracked prompts are AI-generated approximations rather than real user queries.
8. Agent Number 10
Agent Number 10 writes AEO fixes: answer-led copy, FAQ blocks, schema, and headings, staged for approval before they ship. It tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. The Agencies plan is $399 a month for 10 client domains, with 50 fixes a month shared and 25 tracked questions per client. It has no AI Mode tracking listed, no crawler logs, and no regional controls described.
9. Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI includes Google AI Overviews among its four base engines and covers 65+ countries, with unlimited seats. AI Mode, Gemini, and Claude are paid add-ons from $9 to $149 a month, monitoring data can be up to seven days old, and there is no traffic attribution. It stays last.

Which one to pick
Pick Promptwatch if your clients span national, regional, and local prompts and you need AI Overviews, AI Mode, and chat answers in one report tied to Search Console. SEOmonitor and DemandSphere are the gentlest add-on for SEO agencies whose clients still think in keywords. Local Falcon and BrightLocal fit agencies selling local AEO to multi-location businesses, Local Falcon for neighborhood-level grids and BrightLocal for citation fixes. AthenaHQ suits single-market clients who want a task queue. Agent Number 10 sells approved fixes to small clients.
The recommendation
For agencies, AEO usually starts as a Google problem and becomes a reporting problem. The client wants one answer about Overviews, AI Mode, and ChatGPT, broken down by the cities they operate in, with the page that beat them named. Promptwatch is the platform that gives that answer on a self-serve agency plan, because state and city tracking, Search Insights, and citation analytics sit in the same project as the prompts.
