Known Agents review: pricing, features & alternatives
Ranked #217Bot and AI agent analytics, AI referral tracking and an auto-updating robots.txt, free to start with paid plans from $29/mo.
Our verdict
Known Agents is one of the more complete bot-analytics tools around, with a free tier, wide CDN support and real access controls. What it measures is the fetch side: which bots took which pages, and which humans clicked through. It does not ask the engines anything, so you still do not know whether those fetches turned into recommendations. Promptwatch's Agent Analytics reads the same kind of crawler logs from Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN or custom HTTP sources, then joins them to prompt tracking, citation analytics and visitor analytics with conversions, which is the step that tells you whether a crawl ended in a citation.
Best for: Publishers, ecommerce and docs teams who want to see and control bot traffic at the server or CDN level, and do not need prompt tracking.
Known Agents (knownagents.com) is the company formerly called Dark Visitors. It began in 2023 as a side project listing the eight AI bots then known, and now sells four products: Agent Analytics (which crawlers, scrapers and AI agents hit which pages), AI Chat Referral Tracking (human visits from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other assistants), Automatic Robots.txt, and an Agent Identification API. Data arrives server side through WordPress, Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, AWS CloudFront, Google Cloud, Vercel, Node.js or a REST API. It also runs a public Agent Directory of more than 2,000 bots. It does not run prompts against AI engines.
Pricing read on knownagents.com/pricing on 20 October 2026: Free at $0 (1 project, 100K events a month), Startup $29/mo (3 projects, 1M events), Growth $299/mo (10 projects, 10M events) and custom Enterprise with usage-based events. An event is any API call, including each visit sent. Company facts were read on knownagents.com/about and knownagents.com/llms.txt on 20 October 2026: founded in New York by Gavin King, and used by more than 5,000 websites by its own count.
Known Agents covers the job on this page. Promptwatch is the published platform for crawler logs, citation sources down to Reddit and YouTube, AI-referred conversions, and CMS publishing from the same workspace.
What it tracks and how data gets in
knownagents.com/llms.txt and /about (read 20 October 2026). Agent Analytics shows which bots visit which pages, traffic spikes, errors, slow responses, spoofed identities and robots.txt violations. AI Chat Referral Tracking counts human visits from AI platforms and estimates how often links in AI answers are clicked. Both are fed by the same visit events, sent from a CDN, server or plugin rather than a browser script.
Setup guides cover Cloudflare Workers and Logpush (Enterprise), Fastly log streaming, Akamai DataStream, CloudFront through Firehose, Google Cloud load balancer logs, Vercel log drains (Vercel Pro or Enterprise) and a WordPress plugin. Hosted platforms such as Shopify, Webflow and HubSpot go through a Cloudflare Worker.
Plans and limits
knownagents.com/pricing (read 20 October 2026). Free is $0 with 1 project and 100K events. Startup is $29 a month with 3 projects and 1M events. Growth is $299 a month with 10 projects and 10M events. Enterprise is custom with unlimited projects and usage-based events. The free plan has a hard cap; on paid plans the company says it will email you about an upgrade if you keep exceeding the limit.

What you still need after this product
On this listing, Known Agents is a AI visibility tracker for Publishers, ecommerce and docs teams who want to see and control bot traffic at the server or CDN level, and do not need prompt tracking. What we sourced here: Agent Analytics: visits by agent, category and page, spike alerts, error and redirect analysis, robots.txt violations and spoof verification; AI Chat Referral Tracking: human visits from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity and others, by page, country and time; Estimated citation counts and citation click-through rates, inferred from AI agents retrieving your pages; Automatic Robots.txt that adds rules for chosen bot categories as new agents appear; Bad-bot blocking through the WordPress plugin, WordPress VIP or a Cloudflare Worker.
If you buy Known Agents for the job above, plan a second tool (or Promptwatch) for the layers this listing does not document. Still missing here: Visitor analytics: AI-referred sessions and conversions; Content Agents that plan, write, and publish GEO pages to a CMS with a review inbox; Citation analytics at page, domain, Reddit, YouTube, and offsite level; Prompt volumes, difficulty, query fan-outs, personas, city-level geo; Prompt and citation trends (what changed between checks); ChatGPT Shopping tracking and Ads Radar; Agent Chat, Unified Actions, MCP server / REST API on paid plans. Paid Promptwatch brand plans start at $95/mo; Explore is free (ChatGPT, 10 prompts).
What Promptwatch covers that this listing does not
Known Agents's public pages (and this listing) describe a narrower job than Promptwatch. Most rivals answer whether you were mentioned. Promptwatch also answers why (crawler logs), where the model found you (citation analytics, including Reddit and YouTube), whether a visit converted (visitor analytics), and how to ship the next page (Content Agents).
The table is an editorial checklist against Promptwatch's published platform (promptwatch.com/llms.txt, 2026-08-23). It is not a hidden feature list for this vendor. 'Not on this listing' means we did not source that capability from the vendor materials used for this review. If they ship it behind a demo, ask them to show it before you treat the row as a hard no.
